Hey!! Even if I'm only starting this blog but I've already taken a long time away from it, but it was for a good reason : I was sick for ten days.. But today I'm finally feeling better (even if my headache doesn't seem to go away) so I'm writing something so I don't end up giving up on my website..
I've done a lot of things during these ten days, like starting twin peaks, playing armored core 6 and psychopomp gold (I'll probably talk about the later when I finish it), and making a punpkin risotto for Halloween!
Also a good friend of mine asked me to write a short horror story for a compendium, and it was a good coincidence cause I started this website to stop being afraid of writing my thoughts down! The only problem was that I'd only started reading novels like one year ago, and the past months were dedicated to art books. The only horror novel I've ever read at that point was Frankenstein.
And so, I digged some horror, unsettling books from the only youtube channel I follow who talk about novels : Nyx Fears. I've put a lot of books she talked about in my readlist, but I've decided to start by her own : Fluids.
Fluids is a splatterpunk book about two women who met each other on a dating app, then one ruin the life of the other really quickly. This book speaked to my core, under all the gore and crazy shit happening, their is really something true being told about lesbian dating, isolation, mental ilnesses, living in a post covid word, and the two characters resonate with me a lot each one in their own ways.
I was hook during the whole book, stopping only to take a bath to meditate on what I was reading and how it made me feel. I can't recommend it enough (but read a synopsis to know what you're getting into).
Now, I'm going through the Willow Talk Books youtube channel, and I've started a second book, Sisters by Daisy Johnson, as I want to write a gothic book myself!
Earlier this month, I reread Hellstar Remania, influenced by all the talk surrounding the indutrial disaster that is the Uzumaki anime, and by people on Netslum talking about Junji Ito in general.
I choose Hellstar Remania because someone (I don't remember who) said it was the best Junji Ito story.
I didn't read a lot of Junji Ito stuff outside of the classics Tomie, Uzumaki and Gyo, but yeah Hellstar Remania deserve to be in the discussion for the best Junji Ito manga.
In my memories, I thought the manga was longer, I was surprised to see that it was a one shot ! But everything's happening so fast in the story, with a lot of different settings and memorable moments, the last two chapters in particular are wiiiild.
I loved going back to it, I hope this website will push me to read more Junji Ito stuff!
Oh, and by the way, I've also seen the Spirale live action movie, and it was fantastic, but I'll probably talk about it one day in the choroide section.
